What is the Bitpanda Card and what are its benefits?

The old Bitpanda Card was deactivated on 31.03.2025. From 01.04.2025 at 8:00 AM, you can activate your new Bitpanda Card directly in the app. If you haven’t received your new card yet, check your eligibility in the app and order one free of charge.

Introducing the new Bitpanda Card

The Bitpanda Card is the easiest way to spend your investments online and in shops all across the globe. You can use all supported cryptocurrency wallets, metals wallets, Bitpanda Stocks, and the EUR wallet for your daily purchases - that means you can now even pay with real gold everywhere you go.

Requirements

To be eligible to order and use the Bitpanda Card, the following conditions must be met:

  • You have a verified Bitpanda account
  • You are a resident of a country in the euro area (i.e. countries that have adopted the euro as their official currency)
  • Your identity verification was not completed via Bankident (users verified through Bankident are currently not eligible)
  • You have installed the Bitpanda mobile app, as all card features are only available through the app

The first card order is free of charge. Replacement cards due to loss, damage, or expiry may incur a fee of €9.90.

How to order

You can order directly through the mobile app. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Bitpanda mobile app
  2. Make sure the legal name you registered with Bitpanda is spelt correctly on your account, as it will also be the one used on your card. If you need to correct it, please contact us before
  3. Click on your User Icon
  4. Select Card
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions

Keep in mind that the shipping address must match your residential address registered on Bitpanda. Card delivery usually takes around 7 to 10 business days (excluding weekends and public holidays) and is performed via DHL courier.

Depending on user demand or changes to our launch schedule, there might be delays in shipment and order fulfilment, as the card bureau can only issue a certain number of cards per day.

The PIN will be generated once the card is created, and you will be able to view it as soon as you activate your card.

How to activate

To activate your card, you will need the Bitpanda App installed on your mobile phone and the 3-digit security code found below your name on the back of your card. Simply follow these steps:

Note: Please ensure the Bitpanda app is updated to the latest version before proceeding.

  1. If you haven’t done so yet, download the Bitpanda App via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
  2. Log into your Bitpanda account inside the app and pair your smartphone by clicking on the confirmation link sent to your email
  3. Activate your Bitpanda Card by clicking on the “Activate” banner in the dashboard, or go to your profile and select Card
  4. Enter the CVV from the back of your card and follow the in-app instructions

You can also find all the details on activating your card here.

Note: If you enter the CVV incorrectly three times during activation, the card will be locked. Please contact us for assistance.

Tip: Please note that it is not possible to change your PIN online. You can change your PIN at ATMs that support this feature.

How to use

You can use your Bitpanda Card anywhere Visa credit & debit cards are accepted.

Tip: The Bitpanda Card supports contactless payments of up to EUR 50. Before you can use contactless, a standard chip & PIN transaction must be completed at a point-of-sale.

Once you have received your card, simply take care of the following:

  1. Activate your card as described above
  2. Ensure you have sufficient funds in the Bitpanda wallet you want to use for payments
  3. Connect your selected wallet as the Main payment asset
  4. (Optional) Set a Fallback payment asset. If your main wallet cannot cover the full amount, the fallback wallet will be used instead. If both are insufficient, the transaction will fail
  5. Earn a flat 1% cashback in the same crypto asset used for payment on eligible transactions

Note: Cashback does not apply to transactions funded with USDC, USDT, EUROCV, Precious Metals, Bitpanda Stocks (in progress), or fiat balances. Cashback is also excluded for specific MCC categories such as money transfers, utilities, tax payments, and others. Learn more in our Cashback Guide.

Apple Pay / Google Pay: These features are not available yet but are expected to launch soon. Integration is in the final stages, so stay tuned!

How payments are processed

All payments are executed in EUR. When you make a purchase with your Bitpanda Card, the following happens almost simultaneously:

  1. The trade (Debit Card Release)
The respective amount is automatically sold from your connected payment asset (e.g. Bitcoin) to your EUR wallet
  2. The settlement transaction (Debit Card Reserve)
This amount is then reserved for the transaction
  3. Fiat Withdrawal (Debit Card Debit)
The amount is deducted in EUR from your EUR wallet to pay for the purchase. Be advised that this does not reflect a double-charge.
  4. The Instant Trade Bonus
If you are eligible for BEST instant-trade-bonuses, the respective BEST amount will be immediately credited to your BEST wallet. This differs from the cashback reward, which will be credited once the payment is fully processed by the merchant in question.

Tip: the Cashback rewards may take up to 15 days to be credited, as a result of the merchant's processing time. If the cashbacks are not credited within 15 days, reach out to the support team.

To activate contactless payments, you must first make a chip & PIN transaction.

For payments in non-EUR currencies, a currency exchange fee is deducted from your connected wallet. More details on fees below.

Card limits

  • The daily expenditure limit is EUR 10,000
  • The daily ATM withdrawal limit is EUR 500 (non-increasable)
  • The contactless payment limit is EUR 50 (may vary by country)

Tip: There are no minimum transaction amounts.

Fees

Each Bitpanda Card payment triggers an asset-to-fiat trade within your account, incurring the usual trading fee. Bitpanda covers Visa's transaction fees for you.

ATM withdrawals cost EUR 2. Payments and withdrawals in non-EUR currencies no longer incur any fees.

Note: Some ATMs may add local withdrawal fees. Bitpanda cannot influence or refund these. Cancel the withdrawal to avoid such fees if desired.

Tip: You can view all fees and limits inside the Bitpanda app under Card settings > Limits and Fees, as well as in Transaction details.

BEST VIP benefits

BEST VIP level currently does not influence the functionalities of the Bitpanda Card. This may change in the future, as we release additional features for the product.

Excluded Merchants

Transactions with these merchant categories are excluded from the cashback programme.

Transaction status

Successful payments are shown in your Bitpanda history with relevant tags. Failed transactions are not displayed.

transaction_history_wallets_english.png

Each transaction may show the following components:

  1. Trade – asset is sold to your EUR wallet
  2. Settlement – payment from your EUR wallet to the merchant
  3. Cashback – if applicable, credited in BTC (VIP) or in same crypto asset (1% base rate)
  4. Refund – if a transaction is reversed

Card declined & failed transactions

If a transaction fails, you will receive a push notification with instructions on how to proceed. Most payments fail due to insufficient funds on your connected wallet. Make sure you have enough assets in your chosen wallet to cover the payment amount. Transactions will also fail if you exceed your daily card limits or if your card is blocked.

The most common reasons why your card may have been declined include the following:

  • Your Bitpanda Card must be activated prior to use. If you have not done so yet, please complete the card activation as described here
  • Before contactless payments can be used, a normal chip and PIN transaction has to be completed
  • You don’t have enough funds in your connected Bitpanda wallet
  • The respective payment would exceed your daily card limits
  • You have entered an incorrect or expired SMS code
  • Withdrawals (including the Bitpanda Card) have been blocked for 48h after resetting your password or 2FA
  • Your card is blocked for any of the reasons mentioned here
  • You have ordered a new card and are trying to use your old expired card
  • Platform downtime (please check our status page to find out more). To be notified about updates, click on Subscribe to updates and select the relevant topics
  • The wallet of the connected payment asset was in maintenance while initiating a payment
  • You have reached the proof of funds threshold for your Bitpanda account
  • The payment was declined due to a specific Merchant Category Code (MCC) that is excluded from payments (e.g., Automated Fuel Dispensers)
  • There is a technical issue on the merchant’s side:
    • If using the physical card, the card machine may have had issues. Try another machine or ask for manual entry
    • If using the card online, it could be due to high transaction volume or internet issues. Retry the transaction or try alternative options like Google Pay
  • If you deposit to Revolut using the Bitpanda Card and the delivery address does not match your Revolut address, the deposit will be declined

Refunds

Refunds are credited in EUR to your EUR wallet, excluding the Bitpanda sell fee for the original asset-to-EUR trade, regardless of which payment asset was used.

Tip: All refunds will also be visible in your Bitpanda history.

Blocking and unblocking a card

If you lose your card, it’s stolen or there’s a security concern, you can block it in the Bitpanda mobile app:

  1. Log in to the Bitpanda mobile app
  2. In the card dashboard, tap the gear icon to open card settings
  3. Tap Block card and follow the instructions

To unblock it, open the same settings and tap Unblock card.

Tip: If you tap block/unblock too quickly, it may fail. Please wait a few seconds and try again.

In some cases, Bitpanda may block your card for you. This could happen if:

  • You entered the CVV incorrectly 3 times (can be unblocked in the app)
  • You entered the PIN incorrectly 3 times (wait 24h or contact us)
  • We detect suspicious or fraudulent activity (contact us)

Note: To permanently block your card, please contact us.

Replacements

To replace a damaged, lost or stolen card, go to Reorder card in the card settings in the app and follow the steps. Delivery usually takes 7–10 business days (excluding weekends and holidays).

Note: A EUR 9.90 fee applies for replacements. The shipping address must be within the EEA. Once reordered, your original card is deactivated immediately.

Tip: If you haven’t activated your card yet, check the Troubleshooting section.

Renewal & expired cards

Your card will renew automatically and a new card will be sent free of charge.

Tip: Renewed cards keep the same card number and PIN. Only the CVV and expiration date are updated.

Payment history

In the mobile app, your full card payment history is available. Each transaction shows all details, including asset used, original currency, fees, and cashback received.

Asset trades and EUR wallet transactions are shown separately in your History and directly in the wallet used for payments.

Security

Bitpanda and Visa use advanced anti-fraud detection systems to protect your funds. Online transactions require CVV confirmation, while offline ones require your PIN.

For your safety, please remember:

  • Never share your CVV or PIN code. Bitpanda staff will never ask for these details
  • We will never request fiat or crypto deposits to unlock your card
  • We do not offer early access to any features in exchange for crypto or fiat

Taxes

Tax implications when using the Bitpanda Card vary depending on your personal circumstances and country of residence. Bitpanda cannot offer tax advice—please consult your tax advisor.

You can check your Bitpanda History for transaction records. For tax reporting, you might find this blog post useful. Please note that Bitpanda cannot guarantee the accuracy of third-party content.
