From 1 January 2026, Bulgaria will officially adopt the Euro (EUR) as its national currency, replacing the Bulgarian Lev (BGN).
This change is part of Bulgaria’s entry into the Euro Area, as approved by the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Council of the European Union.
At Bitpanda, we will follow the same transition. Starting from 1 January 2026, all BGN balances on Bitpanda will be converted to EUR.
Tip: You can already convert your BGN to EUR or withdraw them if you prefer. Otherwise, your remaining BGN balance will be automatically converted to EUR on or after 1 January 2026.
What is changing
Starting from 1 January 2026, BGN will no longer be available as a supported fiat currency on Bitpanda. At the same time, all BGN balances will be automatically converted to EUR using the officially fixed exchange rate of 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN, as set by the ECB and the Council of the EU.
After this conversion is completed, BGN wallets will no longer appear in your account. Your previous BGN transactions and statements will still remain available in your account history for audit and transparency purposes, just as before.
What you need to do
If you currently hold a BGN balance, choose one of the options below to see what you can do before 31 December 2025.
You can convert BGN to EUR or other available currencies, or withdraw to your bank account.
If you do not take action, your remaining BGN balance will be automatically converted to EUR on or after 1 January 2026 at the official rate.
Deposits and withdrawals
To ensure a smooth transition to the Euro, BGN deposits will be disabled from mid-December 2025. This prevents any new incoming BGN transfers as Bulgaria prepares to adopt EUR.
BGN withdrawals will continue to be available until 31 December 2025, so you can still move your funds to your bank account if you prefer to withdraw before the currency change.
Starting from 1 January 2026, both BGN deposits and withdrawals will be fully disabled, as the currency will no longer be supported on Bitpanda.
