Romania - How to find your TIN (Tax Identification Number)?

As of January 2026, your tax number (called CNP for a citizen or NIF for a non-resident person in Romania) is mandatory on your Bitpanda account under the DAC8 regulation in Europe.

This is a 13-digit number assigned to each taxpayer at birth or at registration. For an individual, it will be under the following format: AYYMMDDBB9999.

How can I find my Tax Identification Number (TIN)?

Two TINs exist in Romania:

  1. The Personal Code (CNP) is issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs for natural-born romanian & foreign residents upon their registration and it is used also by the tax administration as a TIN;
  2. Tax identification number (NIF) for tax non-resident persons in Romania is issued by the Tax Administration only for tax purposes.

These codes can be found:

  • Certificate for Tax registration (new form)

  • Passport

  • Identity Card (placement of the TIN will be the same, even if layout might differ depending on issue year)
  • Residence permit
  • Driving License
  • If you do not have access to your TIN, you can go to the website governmental website (ANAF) to find more information about it.
For any questions about the governmental website, you must contact the tax authority’s support service. Bitpanda will not be able to assist you in accessing this service.
