We are constantly working to provide you with the most accurate and transparent overview of your investments. Recently, we upgraded the way we calculate and display your portfolio statistics.
Here is everything you need to know about the new calculation methods, how we handle swaps and migrations, and why you might have noticed a sudden change in your performance numbers.
What’s New With Your Asset Statistics?
We have transitioned the calculation method for individual assets, specifically the Average Buy Price and Total Return, from the Simple Dietz method to a Weighted Average Buy Price. This change brings several major improvements to your portfolio tracking:
- Smarter Handling of Swaps: In the past, performing a crypto-to-crypto swap would reset your performance for that asset, often leading to sudden visual increases or decreases in your overall performance. Now, your performance carries over when doing swaps. This gives you a much better, uninterrupted overview of your long-term investment journey.
- More Accurate Reflection of Taxable Profit/Loss: Because crypto-to-crypto swaps are not taxable events in many jurisdictions, carrying over the performance during a swap means the displayed values now reflect your potential taxable profit or loss much more accurately.
- Seamless Crypto Mergers and Migrations: If an asset undergoes a merger or migration (such as the BEST/PAN to VSN migration), your total return history is now properly migrated to the new asset. You will no longer lose your performance history when an asset evolves.
Tip: Prefer to reset your performance?
If you do not want the performance of swaps to be carried over, you can execute a separate Sell and Buy of the asset instead of using the Swap feature. You will pay the exact same fees. The only difference is that by doing the sell and buy separately, the displayed performance is not carried over and is instead reset to 0%.
Why Did My Asset Performance Suddenly Change?
If you recently logged in and noticed a sudden jump or drop in the performance of your individual assets, don't worry, your actual funds haven't changed. The displayed numbers shifted because of the recent update. This is due to two main reasons (click to reveal):
How is the Overall Portfolio Calculated?
While individual assets now use the Weighted Average Buy Price, please note that your Overall Portfolio Performance (the top-level view of all your assets combined) still uses the Simple Dietz method for the time being.
