Sometimes a deposit may fail even though everything on Bitpanda’s side is working normally. In these cases, the issue usually lies with your bank, your payment provider, or the settings of your account.
Below you can find the most common reasons for failed deposits and the steps we recommend you follow.

Check if the payment was debited
Has the money already been debited from your bank account?
- If yes: the transfer may still be in progress. Bank transfers can take a few business days to complete.
- If no: it is very likely that your bank blocked or declined the transaction.
Why deposits may fail
Even with a positive balance, your bank may decline the payment if the available funds do not cover the full amount.
Many banks apply daily or monthly transfer limits. You may need to increase your transfer or TAN limit in order to complete the payment.
Remember to make the deposit from a bank account in your own name. Otherwise, your deposit will be returned unless you provide proof of ownership of the account. In addition, PayPal deposits are declined if the email address associated with your PayPal account does not exactly match the one registered with Bitpanda.
If you do not include the reference number provided by Bitpanda when making a bank transfer, the funds may be debited from your bank account but not appear in your Bitpanda account, as the payment cannot be matched automatically.
PayPal deposits are only available in EUR and CHF. Your PayPal account must be registered in the EEA (except Iceland, Croatia, and Hungary) or Switzerland.
Some banks automatically block payments to crypto platforms unless Bitpanda is explicitly authorized as a recipient.
How to fix the issue
Here are some steps you can try:
- Try an alternative payment method (e.g. SEPA, PayPal, credit card, EPS, Apple Pay). Bitpanda offers a wide range of deposit and withdrawal options in ten fiat currencies. Learn more in this article.
- Double-check that your account details and email addresses match correctly.
- When making a bank transfer, always make sure to include the exact reference code provided by Bitpanda. Without it, the payment may not be credited correctly to your account.
- Ensure you have sufficient funds and that your bank or account limits allow the transaction.
- Contact your bank or payment provider to clarify why the payment was declined.
When to contact Bitpanda Support
Please contact our Support team only if the funds have already been debited and you have waited the usual processing time but the deposit is still not visible in your Bitpanda account.
To speed up the process, please include:
- The payment method used
- The transaction ID or reference number
- A confirmation from your bank or payment provider
- Screenshots or any other relevant material that may help our team investigate
In summary: In most cases, if a deposit fails, the issue lies with your bank, your payment provider, or your account settings. We recommend following the steps above, reading our article on payment methods, and contacting your bank if necessary.
