How long will it take for a deposit or withdrawal to appear on my Bitpanda or bank account?

Depending on whether you are buying/selling, moving funds into Bitpanda, or moving funds to your bank, processing times will vary.

Guide: Transactions vs. Deposits vs. Withdrawals

To better understand your account history and get the right help, please note the differences between these actions:

  • Transaction: A general term for any financial activity on your account. This includes internal actions like buying, selling, or swapping cryptocurrencies, as well as external funding.

  • Deposit: Moving fiat money (e.g., EUR, GBP) or cryptocurrency from an external source (like your bank account or a crypto wallet) into your Bitpanda account.

  • Withdrawal: Moving fiat money or cryptocurrency out of your Bitpanda account to an external destination (like your personal bank account or an external wallet).

Processing Times

1. Real-Time Crypto Transactions (Buying & Selling)

Bitpanda processes cryptocurrency purchases, sales, and swaps in real-time. The asset or fiat amount will be credited to your Bitpanda account without delay.

2. Fiat Deposits and Withdrawals (By Payment Method)

When moving cash in or out of your Bitpanda fiat wallet, your chosen payment method heavily impacts the processing time:

  • Instant Methods: GIROPAY/EPS, SOFORT, NETELLER, Skrill, Visa, and Mastercard usually process immediately.

  • Bank Transfers (SEPA/Standard): Bitpanda processes bank transfers within 1 business day, but banks usually take up to 3 business days to complete the transfer.

Security Note: For safety reasons, you may have to wait 1 to 2 business days before you can withdraw assets or funds after a recent fiat deposit. While Bitpanda makes the deposited funds available to you to trade instantly, banks require time to fully complete the underlying transaction.

FAQ: I made a transaction yesterday and it hasn't been completed yet. How long might it take?

If your transaction is not yet complete, it is typically due to standard financial processing windows or security checks.

Why is my transaction delayed?
  • Bank Business Hours: Banks do not process transfers on Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays. Furthermore, Austrian public holidays may differ from your local holidays.

  • Missing Payment Reference: For bank deposit transactions, you must include the provided Payment Reference in your bank's reference field. Forgetting or using the wrong reference will cause significant delays.

  • Security & Compliance Reviews: Large transactions, newly added assets, or mismatched account details trigger automated safety checks that require manual review.

  • Blockchain Congestion (For Crypto): If you are depositing or withdrawing cryptocurrency, delays can happen if the blockchain network is heavily congested or if the fee attached was too low.

Note: Always include the provided Payment reference in the reference field of your bank transfer. If you have forgotten to include, or used the wrong Payment reference, please have a look at this article for further information.

Transaction Statuses Explained (Fiat & Crypto)

You can check the current state of your deposit, withdrawal, or trade by navigating to your History tab. If you made a transaction recently and it is not yet complete, locate your specific status title below to find the exact reason for the delay and what you should do next:

Pending +

What it means: We have received your transaction request, but it is not yet active.

What to do: You likely need to confirm the transaction. Check your email for a confirmation link sent by Bitpanda and click it.

Pending (Processing) +

What it means: You have successfully clicked the confirmation email, and Bitpanda/the network has started processing the transaction.

What to do:

  • For Fiat Bank Transfers: Wait up to 3 business days. If the status hasn't changed after 3 business days, contact us.
  • For Crypto: Wait for the required number of network confirmations on the blockchain.
Waiting for Payment +

What it means: The fiat deposit procedure wasn't fully completed on the payment provider's page, or we are waiting for final confirmation from them.

What to do: If the Finish deposit button is still visible, click it to complete the payment. If it is gone, the status will automatically change to Cancelled, and you will need to start a new deposit.

Finished +

What it means: The transaction was successfully completed on Bitpanda's end.

What to do:

  • For Fiat Withdrawals: If 3 business days have passed and you haven’t received the funds in your bank, check that the recipient name matches your bank account, verify with your bank, and then contact us.
  • For Crypto: The assets have been sent. You can view the transaction hash (TxID) on the blockchain.
Cancelled +

Possible Reasons: You cancelled it; the payment session timed out; your credit card was declined; a technical error occurred with the provider; or the wallet service was undergoing maintenance.

What to do: If your bank account was charged despite a Cancelled status, please contact us and attach a photo/PDF export of your bank statement showing the transfer details so we can investigate.

Refund +

What it means: The fiat transaction failed and the money is being sent back to your original payment method. You will see two entries: the Cancelled transaction and a Refund entry.

What to do: Depending on the provider, it may take a few business days to appear. Contact your payment provider/bank first if it is delayed.

Manual Approval +

Possible Reasons:

  • Mismatched personal info (e.g., using a joint account, a missing middle name, or a recent name change).
  • Attempting to use a corporate bank account without prior authorization.
  • The bank account is already linked to another existing Bitpanda user account.
  • Security triggers (e.g., unusually large transactions or new account features).

What to do: Check your email inbox. If your transaction requires manual approval, we will send an email outlining the exact next steps. If you didn't receive an email, please contact our support team.
